• The last edition 2020 was canceled because of the health situation. So it is Lionel Messi who is the last winner of the trophy during the 2019 edition ;
• The list of nominees was announced on Friday, October 8, 2021, while the ceremony will take place on Monday, November 29, 2021 ;
• Presented by Didier Drogba , the event will take place in Paris, at the Châtelet Theater. The men's and women's Golden Balls, the Kopa trophy and the Yacine trophy will be awarded.

Ballon d'or Prognosis - Our conclusion

All football fans missed this event last year... Indeed, it had unfortunately been canceled because of the health situation. The Golden Ball is back in 2021 , and the best player of the year from soccer will be rewarded with this very prestigious trophy. Even if we will only know the names of the nominees by the end of November, we can still already deliver our analysis and our prognosis to you!

Of course, one of the great favorites as every year is Lionel Messi . The last winner of the Ballon d'or, already holder of 6 titles is still considered the best player in history.

During the last season with FC Barcelona, he managed to score 30 goals in 35 matches, with 9 assists, but also 5 achievements in the Champions League. In terms of titles, he won the King's Cup and especially the Copa America with his country, Argentina, being one of the best players in the tournament.

His friend Cristiano Ronaldo seems to be pretty far down in the polls this year. Despite a good season from a personal point of view last year with Juventus, with 29 goals in 33 games, but also a good Euro with Portugal where he finished top scorer of the tournament with 5 goals, he did not win any major trophy. His arrival at Manchester United this year is clearly with the aim of regaining European heights. He is bound to be one of the contenders for the Ballon d'Or trophy.

How not to talk about Robert Lewandowski . A lot of football fans would like to see him be rewarded with this trophy this year. With once again an absolutely incredible season at Bayern Munich, the Pole is freaking out the counters.

Rather unjustly deprived of this trophy the previous season, because of the cancellation of the ceremony, he continues to impress the football world. With 41 goals in 29 games last season, but also the Bundesliga and the German Super Cup won, he even became golden boot in 2021 by finishing as the top scorer in all championships combined. This is a monster that could finally be rewarded this year!

Several other players seem to be able to claim this title. This is the case of the Italian Jorginho who has had an exceptional season, with a Euro won with Italy and a Champions League with Chelsea.

In the same club, N'Golo Kanté could arrive in the first roles, even if it is rather rare to see a midfielder win the Ballon d'Or. Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, Harry Kane, Romely Lukaku and Karim Benzema are also expected to be among the title contenders, although this may be compromised for them, given the few trophies won the previous season.
