Omaha Poker

Omaha is one of the most played versions of poker in the world. Very similar to Texas Hold'em which also illustrates the rules of the poker game, Omaha will be very accessible if you have the basics of Texas Hold'em. You should know that in the betting system, the game is mainly in Limit and Pot -Limit, more rarely in No limit.

Criteria for the best combination

If in Texas Hold'em, each player receives 2 cards, in the Omaha version, you receive 4. You will have to use 2 of your private cards to associate them with 3 of the community cards to be able to make a hand, unlike Texas Hold'em where you will have the choice to use one or both cards of your hand to complete a combination. This variant is a little more complicated than its cousin, in the sense that the victory is less predictable. If the cards on the table announce a suit, but you do not have at least two of the same, you will not be able to win the game thanks to the value of your hand. The Omaha table has a maximum of 10 players.

The betting system

The stakes do not differ from those of Texas Hold'em. The players to the left of the dealer successively place the small blind and the big blind and are the last to speak in the pre-flop round. For the other betting rounds, namely the flop, the turn and the river, it is always the dealer with the button who speaks last. Of course, the button is assigned to the next player with each new hand.

Be careful when playing in Pot-Limit mode, you will not be able to wager an amount greater than the size of the pot. For example, if the pot contains $25, you can only bet at $50. If someone follows at $25, you will be free to raise at $100, insofar as we count the $ 25 to follow as well as $ 75 to be able to raise up to the pot which now amounts to $ 75.

The Omaha Hi-Lo

This sub-variant has a shared pot. This means that it is possible to get the best high hand and the best low hand. Half of the pot is then given to everyone (the player who has the best high hand and the one who has the best low hand). On the other hand, if no low hand is possible, the entire pot will be awarded to the player with the best high hand. The objective of this High-low mode is to make the highest hand and at the same time, the lowest, we will then talk about " scooper » pot

The best hand is simply the best classic hand. It is worth remembering that for Omaha Hi-Lo, you will have to use exactly two cards from your hand and three from the table to be able to make a hand. The lower hand is more difficult to define. In the same way, you will have to use two cards from your private hand to associate them with exactly 3 cards from the table. All so-called low hands must start at 8 or below. The lower the number, the better for your score! For example, a "low height 7" includes a 7 and the other four cards are below it. The best existing low hand, also called "wheel" is the following: 5-4-3-2-1-A (from its short name a straight high five). The low hand that will bring you the fewest points will be 8-7-6-5-4 (or a straight 8). It is essential that there are at least three cards below 8 on the table so that it is possible to compose a low hand with its private cards.
